Apple
I tuned into the Apple event today, promoting the Apple watch release which is set for April 24th. The creation of a premium product offering in the Watch Edition, which will retail at $10,000 and above, takes Apple squarely into the luxury brand sector. Some will question whether one really needs an Apple Watch but that misses the point. Apple has a virtual monopoly on cool products and the release of its watch is an exciting addition to its product range.
A number of people have commented on the fact that you only need one watch, but that is not exactly true if Mrs. Treacy and I are guides. Additionally, if the innovations announced with MacBook are representative we can anticipate that future iterations of the product will have even more impressive features.
The health features are exciting but user based feedback will be a better guide as to how beneficial they are. In advance of the iPod’s launch there were a number of mp3 players on the market but it blew them away with its ease of use. Apple is hoping to do the same with the fitness tracker and smart watch categories.
The share had rallied for most of February and continues to revert back towards the mean. However, a sustained move below it would be required to question the consistency of the broad uptrend.
