More on supermarkets, following India's decision:
"Israel is currently one of the most successful economies in the world. It has a number of supermarkets chains but these are almost exclusively small units. Besides these large businesses there are thousands of small food stores clearly earning their owners a reasonable living. I take this as proof that the two sectors can live side by side. I suggest that economists, journalists and politicians look very closely at the Israeli economy to find the secrets of its success. Start by reading "The start-up nation" by Dans Senor and Saul Singer."
David Fuller's view Thanks for your observations and book recommendation. All modern, vibrant economies, including Israel, have supermarkets and also small specialty food stores in their cities and towns. The latter often prosper when they are combined with a delicatessen and have outdoor seating. Israel has the ideal climate for this, and we even get to enjoy some cafe pavement relaxation in London.
