on shoe manufacture:

Eoin Treacy's view Thank you for this interesting set of slides which depict what might be considered a relatively ordinary shoe manufacturing operation. What I find most instructive is that the workforce is entirely male. Similar operations I have visited in China are generally cleaner and the vast majority of workers are women. Alongside corruption and bureaucracy, gender inequality represents an additional challenge for India's development.
