An important email on corn:
For what it is worth, in tests in Illinois the latest and brightest corn GMO hybrids yielded more than 4 bushels less than their non GMO hybrids, which didn't even graduate from high school. In the same tests, corn on corn yielded 41.6 bushels less than corn on beans. For the great mass of unwashed who think that the NW belt is pulling the yield back up, over 2000 yields today say they are wrong. It looks like Iowa is down another 5 to 6 bushels from the USDA October report. Nebraska should go down even more. Stay long corn, short Monsanto."
David Fuller's view Thanks for these additional insights.
Few
will weep over Monsanto's problems with its 'SmartStax'
corn hybrids, I imagine, as it has attempted to gain a monopoly with seeds which
only it can supply.
If you
have not yet read John Macintosh's incisive report: It's
a kind of Magic, first posted on Tuesday 5th October, I commend it to
you for both its insights on corn and
also USDA policy. This is crop research at its concise best.
I have
bought more corn over the last two weeks, along with a couple of other minor
trades in positions already reported. I will provide details tomorrow.
