On BHP's weighting in the JSE Index, mentioned by Eoin yesterday:
"Only part of Billiton's market cap is included in calculating the JSE Index. The correct weighting for Billiton is 15% and Anglo American is 12%. Of course this makes Billiton relatively more attractive or does it? South Africa has Julius, Oz has Julia. Julius wants to nationalize (but he is not in power) whereas Julia want to impose super taxes (and she is in power). An interesting toss-up."
David Fuller's view Indeed, and thanks for these insights. Populist politicians often find distributive policies addictive. It reminds me of Jeffrey Dahmer's comment: "It's hard to know when to stop."
