on ammonia as a fuel
"Those that think ammonia is a possible fuel are tragically uninformed. Nitrogen oxides are a likely by-product of combustion. Those oxides were the reason for the demise of high compression engines...they are significant smog formers.
"Ammonia is a dangerous poison. Rupture of an ammonia tank releases a gas that burns and destroys lung tissue.
"The cost of production is non-trivial, and of course fuel use will compete with food production (like ethanol). Maybe this makes some sense from an environmental standpoint if enough people starve to death.
"I continue to be astonished at people believe makes economic and environmental sense. "
Eoin Treacy's view Thank you for these important points, forcefully stated. Personally, I would like to hear what Mat Simmons says about your objections to ammonia, since he is apparently advocating its use as a fuel.
