David,
The observations made in this commentary relative to the nature of human behavior is quite right. The laws of economics are not written in legislation but rather are established by human nature, that is to say, that human beings respond to incentives and to disincentives. In that way human beings will react to the acts of politicians in a manner that they believe to be in their own best interest which most likely will be in ways not anticipated by politicians. The reason, in my opinion has to do with the nature of persons holding power. They are motivated, not by the laws of economics, but rather by their own self interest. The last point I would make is that differences in culture are also a phenomenon based in human nature. Being members of the animal kingdom, human beings are quite territorial. It is in our DNA. Trying to force groups of people that are culturally different to accept something that violates their societal norms will never be accepted. Human nature is what it is.

I agree and thanks for this contribution.
