Thanks for this informative article from the BBC, and the two large murals in the picture are certainly telling. 

In the current environment, closer ties between Greece and Russia would obviously be troubling for the EU.  The problem is, without a Federal EU state, which would understandably have little public support today, I question whether the Greek economy can really recover within the single currency.
