Yang Liu: 'Extremely Volatile' Year for China

My thanks to a subscriber for this very interesting interview.

David Fuller's view The imposing Yang Liu manages the Atlantis China Funds, including their China Healthcare Fund, which is in my personal top-10 equity portfolio. She does talk about a volatile year because of China's efforts to squeeze down inflation.

Perhaps, but I also regard China as an opportunity due to its low regional valuations, second only to Vietnam, which I also like.

Yang Liu certainly knows how to play a bull market and I was very interested in her "six sectors for 2011." Describing the first three as "traditional", she listed: consumer retailing, commodities and healthcare. Her three "new" sectors were: agriculture, high tech and alternative energy.

These choices make sense to me. Alternative energy can certainly be a volatile sector, globally. China has targeted this sector which it will almost certainly lead, given its domination of the rare earths metals sector, rapid absorption of technology and manufacturing capability.
